New York City City Comptroller Brad Lander, a prospect for mayor, was jailed by federal representatives Tuesday as he accompanied a migrant from a migration court hearing and raised objections when officers relocated to apprehend the guy.
” I asked to see the judicial warrant,” Mr. Lander states in a video catching the minute when he is being handcuffed.
His workplace stated he was being apprehended by U.S. Migration and Customs Enforcement.
An Associated Press press reporter on the scene stated a representative informed Mr. Lander he was blocking, and the comptroller can be heard rejecting that, stating he was looking for to see a warrant.
” You do not have the authority to apprehend U.S. people requesting a judicial warrant,” he stated.
As representatives took Mr. Lander away, those with him can be heard asking where he was being taken.
The AP stated Mr. Lander was on hand at the migration court in Manhattan to “accompany” migrants as they were leaving. As he left of a courtroom with an individual, representatives attempted to separate the comptroller from the guy, whom AP stated was the target of the representatives.
Mr. Lander “had a hard time” to keep close to the detainee before being retreated, reported AP.
