A fire Monday afternoon damaged the roofing of a Mormon church on Western Opportunity, triggering more than $5 million in damages, according to Montgomery County Fire Department representative Pete Piringer.
The fire appeared to begin in the attic location of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which remains in Chevy Chase, on the Maryland side of the state’s border with D.C. Piringer stated he got here right after the preliminary 12:25 p.m. call to discover smoke rippling from among the steeples.
