AOC blames Manchin, Sinema for Democrats’ failure to raise debt ceiling last year

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Thursday blamed Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W. Va., and Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., for Democrats’ failure to raise the financial obligation limitation in 2015 prior to losing your home bulk to the GOP.

Ocasio-Cortez stated progressives “were really insistent about preventing this scenario by passing it in 2015” when asked by press reporters if Democrats need to have raised the federal government’s loaning limitation when they held bulks in both congressional chambers.

Congress last raised the financial obligation limitation by $2.5 trillion in December 2021, under President Biden and with Democrats in charge of your home and Senate.

While generally needing 60 votes in the Senate, an offer struck by Senate Bulk Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., caused it passing 50-49 along celebration lines.
